Christmas in Playa del Carmen!

Playa del Carmen - considered "the pearl of the Mayan Riviera" - is bursting with excitement!

Playa is getting ready for Christmas, when people from all over the world will come to celebrate under the tropical sun and warm Caribbean waters.

Children all over the world enjoy representing the Christmas story.

In Mexico, they act out the story of Mary and Joseph looking for a shelter for the night. On the evening of December 16th, people start decorating their houses with green plants, masks and colorful paper lanterns. Then the children form a procession called "Posada". The first four children carry on their shoulders a platform with the statues of Joseph with Mary riding the donkey. All the other children walk behind them, each carrying a lit candle. The "posada" stops by each of the neighbors’ and friends’ houses in turn, while the children all sing together, asking for shelter for Mary and Joseph. All the grownups, however, chase them away, saying that they have not set and threatening to beat them. The children’s procession continues from house to house, until someone finally invites them to come inside.

Christmas 2006 will also see the opening of the new addition to La Tortuga Hotel & Spa!
New rooms and a hot new Jacuzzi in a tropical palm tree garden, complete with deck chairs, are waiting to welcome guests.

Enjoy the comfortable chairs and jump into the swimming pool, sip delicious drinks and lose yourself in the blue sky peeping through the swaying palm leaves - this is the true holiday feeling in Playa del Carmen!

The atmosphere in the hotel is joyous and tingling, people are smiling and cordial, and how nice it is to spend Christmas in 25-degree weather!

La Tortuga’s restaurant Agorà is planning a special Christmas Day menu. Delicious and exquisite dishes will help guests celebrate the most wonderful day of the year!

Walking along Fifth Avenue, Playa del Carmen’s main street - just one block from the azure sea - colors, music and lights make visitors’ days memorable!

Casual wear during the day and elegant clothes for evening will show off your suntan. The scent of suntan lotion and the glance of flirtatiouse xchanged between strangers - that’s Playa del Carmen!

Instead of decorated pine trees, you’ll see tropical palms full of lights and music. The shops are filled with amusing objects and attractive gifts to take home for family and friends.

The restaurants overlooking Fifth Avenue are decorated and decked out in Caribbean style. The Christmas menus offered by the restaurants on Fifth Avenue will also satisfy sophisticated palates!

Juicy red lobsters, just grilled by an international chef, are served on delicious plates with all the trimmings! “Guacamole with nachos” pair beautifully with a Margarita, a typical Mexican drink, or with a fresh beer.

In addition, the white sand beaches are home to a host of traditional little Mexican restaurants, where visitors can savor fresh fish and sip tropical drinks while lazing in beachside hammocks.

Boat excursions, golf games, coral reef diving, horseback riding on the beach, romantic candlelight dinners and guaranteed entertainment characterize this magnificent place – Playa del Carmen.

Leisure and entertainment are what Mamitas Beach Club, the coolest beach spot in Playa del Carmen, is all about! Guys and girls of every nationality meet here. Lounge music, easy listening and reggae form the perfect soundtrack for guests’ holidays!

For guests who prefer peace, quiet, and the sound of the waves crashing on the beach, Mamitas also offers beach umbrellas, lawn chairs, beach beds and much more.

For visitors keen on Mayan culture, Playa del Carmen is just a stone’s throw from Mexico’s best archaeological sites, like Tulum, Chichén Itzá, Cobá, Uxmal, Ek Balam and many more. These sites are open even on Christmas Day.

The friendly environment and smiling staff welcome guests warmly to La Tortuga Hotel & Spa – the ideal Christmas vacation setting.
